Course Structure
The course is run over 8 or 12 months depending on the start date, and consists of 8 units in total. These comprise of seven common core units and one discipline specific specialist unit, delivered in intensive mode over one full week at the end of the course. Students choose their intended future study and career aspirations through their choice of this discipline specific unit.
- The two yearly intakes for the course will be February and July.

The Diploma of Built Environment is intended for students who wish to broaden their future study in the related areas of this important aspect of our civilization.
The Diploma of Built Environment is designed to give students a clear understanding of the scope of this wide sector, as well as providing entry into
Year 2 of the following Curtin degree programs:
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science)
- Bachelor of Arts (Interior Architecture)
- Bachelor of Arts (Urban & Regional Planning)
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management & Economics)
Curtin University of Technology’s courses are highly regarded by both students
and employers alike. At Curtin, students will be learning in first class facilities with
access to the expansive architecture and building studios. Students will also have the opportunity to use the specialized and fully equipped workshop, photographic studio, computer laboratories and resource centre.
Progression to Curtin University
Students who successfully complete the Diploma will progress to the second
year of their chosen course with Curtin University in Architectural Science,
Interior Architecture, Construction Management and Economics or Urban and
Regional Planning.
Entry Requirements
Entry to the Diploma course requires the successful completion of the Australian
Year 12 with a TER/UAI of 75 for the Architectural Science and Interior
Architecture streams, and a TER/UAI of 70 for the Urban and Regional Planning
and Construction Management and Economics streams.
If you do not meet the English language requirements students may be offered
a packaged enrolment with an ELICOS program at Curtin English Language
Centre. Students will have to meet the English Language proficiency required at
the end of the ELICOS enrolment.
Certificate IV and UPP (University Preparation Program) courses are available
for students who do not meet the minimum entry requirements for the
Diploma program.

- Completion of the two-stage architecture course (Bachelor of Applied Science + Masters Architecture) satisfies the educational requirements for registration as an architect.
- The Design Institute of Australia admits graduates of the Interior Architecture (Bachelor of Arts) course to the licentiateship after commencing professional practice and then to full associate membership after a submission of a professional folio of work.
- Completion of the Urban and Regional Planning degree (Bachelor of Arts) qualifies students for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
- Completion of the Construction Management and Economics degree (Bachelor of Applied Science) qualifies students for the corporate membership of both the Australian Institute of Building and the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.
